Thyme Deli Horwich

Thyme Deli

Don’t you love having a day off in the week?

You know? When (seemingly) everyone else is at work?

Well it was recently TKA’s birthday so myself and B took the day off to spend it with him.

He’d already decided he wanted Mcdonald’s for his tea (whatcha gonna do? He’s 4).  So in order to get a decent feed in beforehand and as a post Tenpin treat – we decided to head off to Thyme Deli. By the way, I got my ass handed to me at the bowling alley. Did I mention he’s 4? But he had a ramp. And buffers. Yeah?

Thyme opened up it’s doors in 2003 then expanded to take over the neighbouring unit in 2005. The ex-pub building oozes character and gives Thyme Deli a lovely feel. The staff were all welcoming and friendly with smiles all round.

Local Produce

Local Produce

The deli was stacked with great local produce.  Among them, two of my personal favourites - FatJax Chutneys and Lancashire Sauce

The owner is Amanda Biggs and she was also really friendly and warm. Taking the time to make sure the birthday boy got what he wanted, I think the actual quote was “If we’ve got it, we can put it together”.

The ongoing (and apparently unending) carb embargo forced me to ask ahead of the visit (I love Twitter) what might be on the menu for me.  Therefore I didn’t tempt myself by taking a look at the menu as the Chorizo & Feta Frittata sounded spot on to me.  B opted for the Caramelised Onion & Feta Quiche, whilst TKA chose a Ham Sandwich.  To which he added some Lancashire Crisps, of which I was very jealous.

The food was good and honest. The service, excellent.  It was also apparent that this is the kind of place that people come back to again and again. It had he feeling of a community hub.  Bit like a good local pub.  Handy, given the buildings origins.  The Craven Heifer it might have been but there is nothing cowardly or timid about the place now.  Warm and inviting.

We will be back to demolish the delicious looking cakes and to have more of a gander at the cookware side of things. If you’re in the area you should pop in, I’ve been told the breakfasts are “Proper”.  If you’re not in Horwich, get in your car, take the bus or train and have a wander out.

Thanks Amanda and team.

Yep, I can only add more praise. Every time we’ve been in Thyme the service & quality of food has been excellent. Good review, by the way!

I adore Thyme too. It’s nice that even though the food is delicious and the staff friendly, it’s also comfortable feeling, you don’t feel rushed. It’s one of my favourite places to go. Next time I HIGHLY recommend the Sticky Sausage and melted Lancashire Cheese baguette… the onion marmalade on it makes me sigh happily :)

  3. I agree!! The sandwiches are awesome because the bread they use is so delicious. The daily homemade soups are equally delicious and always interesting flavours. And to top it off- lemon and poppyseed cake- mmmmmmmmm!!!
